If you are planning to travel then don’t leave your request to late. Request at least 5 days before travel so that you are able to get your medication. Sometimes the pharmacy may be out of stock or closed. Please note that NHS rules state that only a 3 month supply of medication can be issued for travel abroad. If you require medication for a longer period of time then this can be issued on a private prescription, standard NHS prescription charges would then not apply.
Urgent repeat prescription policy
Due to the increasing numbers of patients requesting their prescription on an urgent basis, the practice has needed to instate an ‘Urgent repeat prescription policy’. Unless a medication is urgent to prevent immediate harm, all prescriptions will be processed as if requested routinely. These will be submitted to the GP’s and processed within 2 to 3 working days. Please note that pharmacies are able to issue an emergency supply of most drugs without a prescription.
The following medication will be issued on an urgent basis due to the clinical nature of them:
- Inhalers and Montelukast
- Medication for epilepsy
- Warfarin , Apixaban, Rivaroxaban, Dabigatran, Edoxaban, heparin

If it was more urgent for you to commence, a prescriptions would have been provided during your hospital appointment.
