Clinics and Services

Clinics
Baby Clinic / Health Visitor Clinic / Child Developmental checks
Child Developmental Checks
We run dedicated clinics for 6 to 8 week baby developmental checks and maternal postnatal checks. These will be booked by our admin team once we are notified of your babies birth but if you have not heard from us or have newly registered please do contact reception to book this.
The Clinics are an important, routine health and developmental check and are run by a team of specially trained Physician Associates, with supervision from an experienced GP. You can discuss any concerns you have regarding yourself and your new baby. If necessary you may be booked a further appointment to discuss any concerns identified, or referred on as necessary.
Health Visitor Service
From April 2019, the Health Visitor at West Hampstead Medical Centre will be moving to a Baby and Child Health Hub based at Abbey Community Centre at 222c Belsize Road, Kilburn, NW6 4DJ.
The new hub clinic will allow:
- Parents to have opportunities for sharing experiences and mutually support each other through a more social experience.
- A more in depth focus on the parent–child interaction and support for parenting skills.
- A more interactive experience (outside of weighing and measuring), that allows staff to build a supportive relationship with parents, by giving both space and time for parents to understand their options.
- Support for baby feeding including a private space for breastfeeding peer supporters to provide 1:1 help where required.
The Baby Hub Clinic at Abbey Community Centre takes place there every Wednesday morning from 10.00am to 12.00pm.
For more information about Baby and Child Health Hubs in Camden you can visit the Camden Health Visiting and Family Support Service website or call the team on 0203 317 3032.

Ear Wax Removal
We do not perform ear wax removal at the surgery
A clinician can only look into the ear canal and confirm that a plug of earwax has formed
Further information
When to see a clinician
- If your symptoms have lasted for more than 4 days.
- If your ear is badly blocked and you cannot hear anything (you can get an infection if it has not cleared).
- If you have severe pain, discharge or itching.
- If you are very concerned/worried.
Following your examination a referral maybe considered. Please note all routine referrals ie microsuction go via the pathway outlined on Referrals. The clinical assessment team do not usually allow us to refer a patient unless they have tried one month of treatment first. Once the referral is accepted, then there is a long waiting list to be at an Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, usually around 6 months.
Local private providers
You can also pay to be seen privately to avoid waiting. Here are a few suggested, but not endorsed, treatment centres:

Urgent Care Plan for London
UCP is a great NHS initiative providing an Electronic Urgent Care Plan which lists the patient’s wishes and care preferences and contains practical information (eg. who to contact in an emergency or where medication is kept)
This is then electronically shared with health and social care professionals who may be involved in care (eg. 111, Out-of-hours GPs, London Ambulance Service), so that patient wishes can be respected and followed with regards to urgent or end of life care.
To read more about this please visit the One London website and then speak to your GP

Alternatively you can request to self swab at the practice or our nursing staff can do these. (Blood tests are performed at the local Hospitals)
